Equipment
Ingredients

For the Za'atar:
  • teaspoon sumac
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Pita Chips:
  • 4 pita bread round, whole wheat or white
  • olive oil cooking spray
  • teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions

  • Combine the ingredients for homemade za'atar in a small bowl and set it aside (Skip this step if using store-bought za'atar).
  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (176°C). Carefully cut the pita bread into small triangles. Then, split the pita bread into two.
  • Coat them with cooking spray and sprinkle kosher salt over the top.
  • Arrange the chips into the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Shake the basket and sprinkle them with za'atar. Continue cooking for 2-4 minutes or until the pita chips are golden brown and crispy.
Notes
Expert Tips:
  • After you cut the pita bread into equal triangles, separate the top and bottom layers so they crisp evenly.
  • Arrange the pitas into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Work in batches for even cooking, and don't overcrowd the basket.
  • Shake the basket halfway through to help the pita chips crisp up uniformly.
  • Cooking the pita chips for 5-7 minutes should work for most air fryer models, but keep an eye on them during the last few minutes to avoid overcooking.
