Whip up a quick batch of air fryer pita chips for a tasty Mediterranean-inspired appetizer or snack. Serve the za’atar flavor chips with creamy butter bean hummus and beetroot dip.
Can You Make Pita Chips in An Air Fryer?
Yes, you should be making homemade pita chips in the air fryer! The air fryer gives the homemade chips a delicious crunch without deep frying. Plus, they taste better than store-bought chips, and you can season them however you want.
Ingredients for Homemade Pita Chips
- Pita: Cut four pitas into triangles for perfectly crispy air-fried pita chips.
- Cooking Spray: Coat the pita bread with avocado or olive oil cooking spray to ensure the chips become crispy and golden brown.
- Kosher Salt: No matter how you season the chips include kosher salt to get the flavor just right.
- Homemade Za’atar: Combine dried sumac, dried thyme, oregano, and a pinch of ground nutmeg for a quick homemade za’atar, or purchase the spice blend in the grocery store.

Expert Tips
- After you cut the pita bread into equal triangles, separate the top and bottom layers so they crisp evenly.
- Arrange the pitas into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Work in batches for even cooking, and don’t overcrowd the basket.
- Shake the basket halfway through to help the pita chips crisp up uniformly.
- Cooking the pita chips for 5-7 minutes should work for most air fryer models, but keep an eye on them during the last few minutes.
