For Oven Baked Tostadas:

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Then, line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  • Set tortillas onto the foil and poke them with a fork in several places.
  • Brush both sides with oil. Bake for 4 minutes, flip, and bake for 4 minutes until they are crispy and golden brown.

For Fried Tostadas:

  • Set a wire rack into a rimmed baking sheet. Then, warm ¼ cup of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Poke the tortillas with a fork in several places, and once the oil is smoking, add the corn tortilla and cook for 30-45 seconds. Flip and cook the other side for about 5-10 seconds.
  • Using tongs, set the tortilla to dry on the wire rack or paper towel. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
Notes
Expert Tips:
  • For perfectly crispy pan-fried tostadas, it’s best to allow them to dry on a wire rack or blot them with paper towels after cooking.
  • When preparing tostadas on the stovetop in oil, you should prepare the corn tortillas individually – one at a time.
  • To ensure the tostadas retain their warmth, transfer them to a cloth or a tortilla keeper.
