Why You’ll love This Recipe

  • Making a raspberry blueberry smoothie is a perfect way to start your day, enjoy it as a post-workout drink, or have it as a tasty afternoon snack.
  • This recipe is a great way to use the fresh or frozen raspberries and blueberries in your fridge.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Milk: Prepare your raspberry and blueberry smoothie with any milk of your choice. You can use dairy, soy milk, oat milk, almond milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk.
  • Yogurt: Greek yogurt is my favorite because of the extra protein to keep you full longer, but plain yogurt works. You can also try vanilla or honey yogurt if you prefer something sweeter.
  • Berries: Like our Grimace McDonald’s Milkshake, the combination of raspberries and blueberries gives the drink its vibrant color. Use fresh or frozen raspberries and blueberries.

Additions and Substitutions

Feel free to make the smoothie your own with mix-ins, additions, and swaps. Plus, this recipe is a fun way to use the healthy ingredients in your fridge.

  • Fresh or Frozen Fruits: If you have fresh berries, use them for the mixed berry smoothie. Frozen fruit is great when blueberries or raspberries aren’t in season. Plus, frozen berries create a thicker smoothie if that is something you enjoy. If you’re using fresh blueberries and raspberries instead of frozen, you might want to add a handful of ice cubes to make the smoothie colder and give it the perfect texture.
  • Vegetables: Include zucchini, beets, kale, or spinach.
  • Juice: Instead of milk, use fresh orange juice, apple juice, or grape juice.
  • Add Protein: If you’re craving more protein, consider including your favorite protein powderchia seedshemp seedsflax seeds, or nut butter to make the smoothie more filling.
  • Honey: I prefer the natural sweetness of the banana, but you can add dates, honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, sugar, or a sugar-free alternative like monk fruit

Tools Used to Make this Recipe

I recommend using a high speed blender since the berries have seeds, but you can use whatever you have. A small blenderfood processor, or immersion blender will work.

What to do With the Leftovers

  • Refrigerate  It’s best to serve the berry smoothie right away. However, if you end up with leftovers, they will last for two days.
  • Freeze – The best way to freeze the smoothie is to pour the drink into ice cube trays. Once frozen, add the frozen smoothie cubes to the blender with a liquid of your choice and process them to serve.
  • Repurpose – Make a smoothie bowl with toppings like granola, fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, or nut butter like peanut butter or almond butter. You can also pour the leftovers into popsicle molds to make kid-friendly smoothie popsicles for everyone to enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use other berries in this smoothie?

I am always a fan of using what you have. Include other berries in your smoothie, such as blackberries, strawberries, or acai berries. More fruits to consider are chopped mango, cherries, or pineapple.

Can you use fresh fruit in this smoothie?

If fresh raspberries and blueberries are in season, go ahead and use them. However, I strongly recommend frozen fruit if the berries aren’t in season. The raspberry blueberry smoothie will taste better, and it will cut your grocery costs.
