Sos Czosnkowy (Polish Garlic Sauce)

Garlic lovers will go crazy for this sauce! Creamy sos czosnkowy is a famous Polish garlic sauce recipe served alongside meals like pizza and kabobs. The flavor is similar to Lebanese toum or garlic aioli, and it’s delicious!

What is Sos Czosnkowy?

Sos czosnkowy is Polish for garlic sauce, a popular condiment in Polish cuisine. The primary ingredient in sos czosnkowy is fresh garlic, which gives the sauce its distinctive flavor. Other common ingredients include mayonnaise, sour cream, and yogurt mixed with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Base: Choose a good-quality mayonnaise, as it creates a creamy base for the homemade Polish garlic sauce. You can use store-bought (like Duke’s or Hellmann’s) or homemade mayonnaise. And adding Greek yogurt is a tangy addition to the sauce. Feel free to adjust the ratio according to your preference.
  • Garlic: Many recipes go lighter on the garlic for this sauce, but I am a garlic girlie, so I use six cloves! I mean, garlic is in the name, right? And while you can use prepared garlic for this recipe, freshly minced garlic is much better!
  • Spices: Season the sauce with salt and pepper and finish with mustard seeds for added texture.
  • Lemon Juice: Cut the creaminess with bright, freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Additions and Substitutions

  • Consider adding fresh herbs like chopped dill, parsley, or chives.
  • Include a splash of pickle juice instead of fresh lemon juice.
  • Replace the mayonnaise or Greek yogurt in the recipe with sour cream.
  • If you want a milder garlic flavor, roast the garlic cloves in the oven or stovetop before including them in the sauce.

What’s the Garlic Sauce For?

The creamy and garlicky flavor of garlic sauce makes it a versatile condiment that pairs well with a variety of foods, such as grilled meats and potatoeskebabs, fries, and perogies, or as a topping for sandwiches and wraps. However, it’s typically served with pizza or zapiekanka (an open-faced baguette with toppings).

What to do with the Leftovers
